President Muhammadu Buhari is elected the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The news was confirmed by Buhari's Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmaad, on Twitter.
Buhari took to Twitter to express his gratitude over his victory as the new ECOWAS chairman at the 53rd session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government in Lome, the Togolese capital.
‘’Truly humbled by my election today as the new Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. I pledge to serve and work with my fellow Heads of State to deliver on peace, security, good governance and socio-economic development in the region.‘’
